In an article titled “Launching the Age of Artificial Intelligence,” published by Bill Gates in March 2023, he predicted that AI technologies would become the central tool in education, leading to a radical shift in teaching and learning methods.
Gates explained that these technologies will be able to recognize a learner’s interests and personal learning styles, allowing them to design personalized content that keeps their minds engaged and active.
These technologies will continuously measure the learner’s level of understanding, watch for signs of loss of interest or concentration, recognize the types of stimulation that each individual responds best to, and provide immediate feedback and direct guidance on their performance.
In a February 2025 interview with Professor Arthur Brooks of Harvard University, Gates predicted that the spread of advanced AI technologies will reduce the traditional reliance on teachers, as these technologies will provide high-quality educational opportunities that are free and widely available to all. He emphasized that AI will contribute significantly to achieving equality in education by making quality learning opportunities available to different socio-economic groups, thereby enhancing access to quality education for all.
Thomas Frye, executive director of the Da Vinci Institute and one of the most famous futurists, predicted that “by 2030, the biggest company on the Internet will be an education-based company that we haven’t even heard of yet.” This prediction has been endorsed by many thinkers and entrepreneurs. If an AI-powered education platform were to dominate the global education landscape, it could reach more than 1.5 billion students and trainees around the world and in many languages.
