Google deploys AI to combat scams on Chrome browser

Washington: Google has updated its Enhanced Protection feature in Chrome by integrating the Gemini Nano AI model, offering stronger defense against phishing and remote tech support scams. The AI runs locally, allowing Chrome to detect new fraud methods by analyzing complex websites. Google plans to expand this AI-driven protection to Android soon, initially targeting scams via Chrome notifications. An on-device model analyzes suspicious notifications and alerts users, giving them the option to unsubscribe or view blocked content. Users can override false positives. Google, prioritizing fraud prevention, introduced real-time call alerts and security tools in the Messages app in May 2024.
