The suspension was ordered by the court following the prosecution’s request amid defense lawyers’ calls to recuse the judge.

Maradona died on November 25, 2020, aged 60, from heart failure and acute pulmonary edema, two weeks after brain surgery. His seven-person medical team faces charges of gross negligence over his care during recovery at his Buenos Aires home. Prosecutors allege the team’s actions amounted to “homicide with possible intent,” risking prison terms of eight to 25 years if convicted.
