Qatar participates in the High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development in New York

Qatar is participating in the 2025 High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development, which kicks off today at the United Nations headquarters in New York and runs through July 23.

Qatar’s delegation will be led by HE Dr. Abdulaziz bin Nasser bin Mubarak Al Khalifa, Secretary General of the National Planning Council.

H.E. Dr. Abdulaziz bin Nasser bin Mubarak Al Khalifa will share Qatar’s Voluntary National Review 2025 with the forum on July 23, according to a statement from the National Planning Council.

The Forum is the UN’s primary platform for tracking global progress in implementing the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, bringing together leaders of Member States, representatives of international organizations, and civil society to assess performance and accelerate progress towards achieving the SDGs.

His Excellency the Secretary General of the National Planning Council said: “Qatar’s participation in the High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development reflects Qatar’s commitment to implementing the sustainable development agenda as part of its development journey in accordance with Qatar National Vision 2030 and the Third National Development Strategy (2024-2030). By highlighting the progress made in achieving the sustainable development agenda, Qatar’s Voluntary National Review reflects the integration between national and global development goals, expanding the horizons of cooperation and partnership with the international community to ensure a prosperous and sustainable future for future generations.”

In addition to sharing Qatar’s Voluntary National Review 2025, H.E. Dr. Abdulaziz bin Nasser bin Mubarak Al Khalifa will participate in ministerial roundtables, bilateral meetings, and expert sessions that will take place throughout the Forum.

The National Planning Council led the preparation of Qatar’s voluntary national review for 2025, which includes a detailed 297-page national report documenting more than 900 data points, 251 indicators, and 30 case studies.

This report represents Qatar’s fourth national review and features extensive participation from more than 100 stakeholders, including youth, the private sector, ministries, academic institutions, and civil society.

This review provides a data-driven report that reveals Qatar’s efforts in translating its far-reaching vision into tangible and measurable achievements, with more than 60 national strategies under Qatar National Vision 2030 and the Third National Development Strategy (2024-2030) aligned with the SDG framework.

At the international level, the report highlights Qatar’s growing footprint in the fields of sustainable development, with foreign aid since 2020 amounting to $4.8 billion, 90 percent of which has been allocated to least developed countries, while 64 percent of this aid is aligned with the SDGs, particularly in the areas of anti-poverty, healthcare, and education.

Among Qatar’s pioneering initiatives is the Education Above All program, which has reached more than 10 million children in more than 60 countries.

Qatar has also hosted prestigious global platforms, including the Fifth United Nations Conference on Least Developed Countries and the International Conference on Resilient Water and Food Security in the Face of Climate Change 2025.

Qatar prepared its first voluntary national review in 2017, the second in 2018, and the third in 2021.

The VNRs focus on highlighting progress in achieving the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, which includes 17 goals, 169 targets, and 248 indicators, as well as illustrating multiple national efforts in achieving overall sustainable development and the Qatar National Vision 2030.
