The Palestinian Football Association (PFA) expressed its deep concern and regret over what it described as an “unjustified media and public campaign” against the Palestinian national team player, Wissam Abu Ali, on some Egyptian media platforms and social media sites, against the backdrop of developments related to his journey with the Egyptian club Al Ahly.
In an official statement today, the federation said that Wissam “represents a great technical and national value,” noting his full commitment to the Palestine shirt on and off the field, and his “discipline and professionalism” with which he won the trust of the technical staff and the Palestinian public.
The statement added that the player performed well for Al-Ahly in the last edition of the Club World Cup and was appreciated by the fans, and that what is being raised against him “is completely unacceptable,” especially with regard to questioning his intentions or compromising his national identity.
The Palestinian Federation called on its counterpart, the Egyptian Football Association, and its president, Hani Abu Rida, “personally,” to intervene to protect the player from these campaigns, and called on Al Ahly’s management to assume its responsibilities to calm the atmosphere and defend its players, “whatever the nature of the disagreements with them.”
At the end of its statement, the Palestinian Federation wished Wissam Abu Ali success in his career, and expressed its appreciation for the Egyptian Al Ahly Club and its ancient history, wishing him success and stability in the upcoming competitions.
